Mason Nixon (website)

Mason Nixon is a current Master’s student in electrical and computer engineering at Georgia Tech. He received his B.S. from Auburn University in electrical engineering and wireless engineering graduating summa cum laude (with most high honors) in May 2011. Mason received an award for Outstanding Research in Alternative Fuels in his sophomore year and founded an Engineering Club dedicated to fuel alternatives research. During his time at Auburn University, he joined the Student Projects and Research Committee and went on to lead them at two IEEE Southeastern Conference’s robotics competitions. He and his team won the Engineering Wifi Antenna Design Team Competition for the best performing Wifi antenna design. He also won a Radar Tracking Algorithm Design Team competition. In addition to other merit based scholarships, Mason received the national SMART Scholarship for Service in 2009 (out of 1500 applicants) for his undergraduate degree and then again in 2011 (out of 2700 applicants) for his graduate studies. During his undergraduate career, he was an officer in IEE, Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kappa Nu. At Georgia Tech, his focus is in systems and controls and he is currently working on a system to aid in physical therapy of children with cerebral palsy. In his spare time, he enjoys programming, water skiing, playing solo acoustic guitar, and spending time with his daughter and fiancé.
